| Welcome to Transylvania Elementary School! We are a
kindergarten through eighth grade school located in the southern part of
the East Carroll Parish School District in the state of Louisiana. East
Carroll Parish is located in the most northeastern part of Louisiana. The
Mississippi River is our eastern boundary.
We are a small, rural school with approximately one hundred eighty-five
students. We have recently updated our electrical systems and phone lines
to equip our classrooms with internet capabilities. Our curriculum
includes technology based instruction in the classroom. Our campus is well
landscaped and maintained. We are very proud of our Transylvania Tiger
basketball program. Students find Transylvania to be a pleasant place to
learn and work.
The Transylvania Community is very supportive of its school. Many
neighbors have adult children who attended school here, in fact, the
principal is an alumnus of this school. In some cases, we have children of
former students coming to Transylvania School. Many parents volunteer in
our classrooms and help to make Transylvania a family place.
The Transylvania staff is a dedicated group of people who hold the
success of all children as top priority. Staff members work together to
provide the best possible learning opportunities and successes for our
students. The individual strengths and talents of our teachers have come
together to provide dynamic learning experiences.
In our quest to improve our educational program, Transylvania School
has had extensive staff development programs for its teachers in the area
of technology, student centered programs for self improvement, the
addition of multiple computers in each classroom, campus beautification
programs by students, sports and playground equipment improvements, and
continuous learning opportunities provided for our students.
Transylvania Elementary School is a caring and challenging place of
learning where everyone is welcome and can find a place to belong and
succeed. We seek and create opportunities to join efforts with our parents
and community to provide a promising future for our students.
Judy Knight, Principal
Philosophy
Every student will learn, therefore, each student must be provided
challenging instructional methods, materials, and experiences in the most
appropriate learning environment.
A safe learning climate should be provided wherein the student can
develop a positive self-concept, self-direction, and a sense of personal
responsibility.
Learning experiences for every student should include the four areas of
development: cognitive, social, physical and emotional.
Alternative instructional settings should be provided for students with
unique learner needs.
School, families, businesses, and communities should forge active
partnerships to foster the academic success of children and to collaborate
in planning for school improvement.
Encouragement and support should be provided by all active partners to
educators as they continue their professional development.
Mission
The educators at Transylvania Elementary School are committed to
providing effective teaching-learning experiences that will encourage each
child to develop the appropriate academic and life skills to be successful
in a democratic society where change is inevitable. |
