technological skills needed to be productive citizens in the Twenty-first
Century.
“Making a Commitment to Excellence”
Monticello High School is a small rural school that serves one hundred and
sixty students in grades K-12. Regardless, of this small enrollment, we
feel that each child should be provided with the opportunity to develop to
the fullest. Therefore, we provide each individual the opportunity to
express his/her special talents, interests and creative ability. We also,
try to develop the skills that our students need to enter the new
knowledge-based economy.
The elementary curriculum focuses on basic skills acquisition in
reading and mathematics and is enriched through the study of social
studies, science, oral and written communication, music, art and physical
education. Instruction is provided in small and large group settings with
attention given to individual differences.
Our Secondary curriculum is organized to provide a broad education base
for the few college-bound students and for those students who choose
vocational studies. Students who are not continuing their education in
college are taught through an integrated curriculum. A greenhouse is used
for those interested in farming. Office machines and other computer
courses are offered for those who plan for work in an office setting.
Students interested in nursing, welding, advanced computer classes and
auto mechanics are bused to the Vo-Tech Complex. Tech Prep and
School-to-Work are also part of our curriculum.
Here at Monticello, technology is being used to broaden the resources
available for both teachers and students. Several technology activities
are stimulating the teaching/learning atmosphere here a Monticello High
School. Our teachers have access to computers in their classroom, which
are directly connected to the Internet and worldwide resources. All of our
classrooms are wired with four drops, and our business department has
twenty instructional stations with Internet access. Both students and
teachers share the excitement of being on line and technology connected
lessons are apart of our curriculum. We recognize that technology tools
require time to master, therefore we make available to our teachers
technology training twice monthly. In any profession, time must be
invested in learning how to use a particular piece of software to
accomplish work-related goals; furthermore, keeping up with upgrades or
new software requires ongoing investments of time.
Monticello students not only excel in academics but also have gained
state recognition in sports. Students at Monticello do extremely well on
the LEAP Test. We have received state recognition and were awarded a
plaque for scoring above 95 percent on the LEAP for 3 consecutive years.
Since 1976 Monticello has been a state champion in Track & Field for 13
years. In the past 10 years, Monticello Basketball Teams have been in the
State Play-offs. |
