Supplemental Educational Services (SES)
Griffin Middle Academy, 1205 Charles D. Jones Blvd., Lake Providence, Louisiana, has been labeled by the Louisiana State Department of Education as Academically Unacceptable/School Improvement 3. A school is labeled as Academically Unacceptable if it fails to make annual yearly progress (AYP) for two years and fails to attain a School Performance Score (SPS) of 60 as required by both the Louisiana Accountability System and the No Child Left Behind federal legislation. Federal and state laws require continuous annual improvement in student achievement, attendance, and dropout rates.
For students who desired to remain at Griffin Middle Academy, the East Carroll Parish School Board is offering Supplemental Educational Services – SES (After School Tutorial in Reading/Language Arts and Mathematics) This service will begin in September, 2008. Students’ eligibility for Supplemental Educational Services (SES) is prioritized based on academic need and free/reduced lunch status. NCLB mandates that parents have the opportunity to participate in the selection of SES Providers. Parents of students at Griffin Middle Academy will receive a letter announcing a SES Provider Fair which will be held at Griffin Middle Academy in August, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. At this meeting, parents will participate in choosing a SES Provider to provide after school tutorial for their child/children. |
