In order to earn a whole unit of credit in a traditionally whole unit high school subject, a subject must pass two six weeks of the Fall Semester, and two six weeks of the Spring Semester with a minimum of three (3) quality points per semester.

* NOTICE: Even though a student may earn (6-9) units for the session (the equivalent of a “D”), the student must still pass both semesters with a minimum of three (3) quality points per semester in order to receive a passing grade.

* NOTICE: Students who willfully fail either semester, fail for the session.

Weighted Grades for Honors

The East Carroll School District does address weighted grades for honors, gifted, and/or Advanced Placement (AP) courses in its high schools.

Class Rankings

In order to be uniform and consistent in determining class rankings of students in East Carroll Parish, the following criteria shall be used as determined by the State Department of Education’s Student Transcript System.

A. For quality point purposes, the following shall apply:
A = 4 points
B = 3 points
C = 2 points
D = 1 point
F = 0 points
B. Physical education shall not be considered.
C. The total quality points for final grades shall be determined using the point values in “A” above. In instances where a half unit of credit is earned, the total points shall be determined for the half unit and divided by two. The quotient shall be added to the total points for full units earned. The point total (full unit point plus one-half unit point total) is divided by the total full units and half units earned.

D. When computing overall grade averages, the quotient shall be carried out a minimum of four (4) decimal places.
